Vampire Shift is the first novel in the Kiera Hudson Series. Kiera is a 20 year old constable who recently graduated from the Police Academy. Unwilling to seem like she was hard to deal with and inflexible when it comes to duty stations, Kiera agrees to take a job in the remote village of The Ragged Edge. Kiera has a gift of noticing things that others can’t see which is basically saying that she’s got a sixth sense in discovering things that may be important in solving a case. Who needs CSI when you have Kiera’s abilities to work with? Kiera is also on a mission to find out what happened to her mother who seemingly vanished into thin air 3 years before.
Kiera is an interesting character in that she openly walks into a situation where she is over her head and ends up dealing with things that she couldn’t have imagined before taking the duty station. There are mysteries surrounding the disappearances of other constables stationed at The Ragged Edge, as well as the fact that someone appears to be desecrating graves of the recently deceased. Kiera, however, truly believes that her “Gift” will allow her to solve the mysteries so that she can move onto the more important task of finding out what happened to her mother.
Kiera ends up with the late shift, affectionately called The Vampire Shift. Her coworkers Sergeant Murphy, Constable Potter, and Constable Luke Bishop all seem to be hiding something and later we learn a few more mysteries which Tim reveals piece meal and I will not spoil. It was not much of a shocker to learn who Kiera would end up having a romantic interlude with.
I’m so very glad that I found the time to dive into this series as I have been putting it off for months now. Thanks to Tim for sharing these books with me! Vampire Shift is such an interesting concept and the differences between vampires is profound. Readers will be kept in their seats as this is a fast read that goes by quicker than you can imagine. I can’t wait to jump into Vampire Wake soon!
