Review - A Tale of Two Centuries (My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century #2) by Rachel Harris

I shall be honest with you when I say I am clueless on how to review and rate this book but will do my best anyhow. A Tale of Two Centuries wasn't bad at all so no worries about experiencing a let down. In fact, it was pretty consistent with My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century which featured Cat Crawford and which I totally enjoyed especially since she went back in time and pretty much stayed true to her own personality while experiencing what women truly had to deal with in that time period.

It's an interesting comparison between Alessandra D'Angeli and Cat, but they are truly nothing alike. Less is more of a free spirit who has been bred to believe that she should marry and settle down and have lots of kids which is how most Italians are raised into believing. That idea is shaken to the core upon Cat's arrival which opens her eyes to the things that 21st century women take for granted such as the ability to become actresses and choose who they want to marry which makes her long for a chance to experience the same things herself. When Less travels to the future, she becomes more open to possibilities of adventure, romance, and yes, love and ends up finding Austin Michaels who has more than enough issues to write his own novel. She also has unlimited choices at her fingertips.

Cat, on the other hand, is more of a person who hides in the shadows trying to avoid the spotlight left behind by her conniving movie star mother while also trying to avoid the inevitable marriage between her father and Jenna. We also see a much different side of Cat this time around, one who has been spoiled by her fathers successes and therefore doesn't want or need for anything including having her own driver to pick her up and take her anywhere she wants. One who is terrified of letting her heart open up to the possibility of finding someone like Lucas to fall in love with. One who, when she was in the past, didn't get a choice of what she could do, who she could love, or even whether or not she could stay.

In an interesting move by Harris, the timeline actually shifts 2 years for Less and 2 months for Cat putting them both at 16 years of age. The turning point of A Tale of Two Centuries is when Less is betrayed by a boy she thought she loved and would eventually marry and that is how Reyna comes along and offers her the adventure of a lifetime to travel 500 years into the future where Cat lives.

Less is such a sweet and adorable character and I was happy to learn that A Tale of Two Centuries was going to feature her. She's genuinely happy to experience her own adventures while looking for signs from Reyna that it is time to return to her own time. Of course, Less's feelings towards Austin force her into making the ultimate choice of either never seeing her family again, or staying in the 21st century.

I will be interested to see where My Not So Super Sweet Life goes from here. Apparently, it appears that we are going back to Cat's POV which is totally fine.

    1. You are very welcome! I am truly happy that you enjoyed my review. There are times that I feel I'm out of my league when writing reviews or am afraid that I've spoiled it for others. Definitely can't wait until My Not So Super Sweet Life goes live!

  3. OK I am so bummed by this series I boycotted it! Last year I supposedly won a giveaway, book & swag & never got anything! Even contacted the author and after notifying me that I won, never heard from her again.

Lovely to see you enjoyed it but because I'm impertinent sometimes (and still sulking) I am not picking up this series. LOL
