*Blog Tour Stop* Death Is But A Dream by Erin Hayes *(Review & Giveaway)*

Welcome to my stop on the Death is but a Dream Blog Tour.
Today, I am posting my thoughts about the book itself as well as giving readers
a chance to win some nifty prizes! Good Luck!

Book details:

Death is but a Dream by Erin Hayes
Publication date: Fall, 2013
Genres: Adult, Fantasy, Mythology

Synopsis:

Caught between life and death, all Callie wants is to live again.

Homicide detective Callie Saunders knows that death isn’t all pearly gates and angels. After being hit by a bus, she finds that it's the ancient gods and goddesses of Greek mythology who are in charge of everything.

So when Hades offers her a deal, she accepts. If she wants to be brought back to life, she’ll have to figure out who is trying to kill his son. But if she fails, both her soul and the world will be destroyed.

With the odds mounting against her, it’ll take everything she has within her to wake up from death. But the rules are constantly changing. And someone wants her to stay dead

*My Thoughts*

Callista (Callie) Saunders is a San Francisco Detective who has her whole life thrown into a different direction after stepping in front of a bus in order to save a child and waking up in the Underworld. While her body lies in a coma topside, Callie is given a job by Hades himself to protect his son Plutus, who just happens to be the God of Wealth, while also trying to stop anyone from assassinating him.

Even though Callie is an excellent Detective in the real world, she somehow forgets to remember anything about her own heritage or pretty much anything to do with Greek Mythology. Color her surprised when the characters like Hades, Persephone, Zeus, Apollo, and Hera are all real! For the record, this book could be a who’s who of tragic Greek characters some you have never heard of before.

Callie is definitely an interesting character. She does, however, have a tendency to put herself into harm’s way without thinking about things first. I would almost go as far as saying that she has a death wish.
As for the secondary characters, I believe my favorite above all others is Tisiphone, a Fury who is also part of the Underworlds law enforcement team. Callie ends up being paired with Tisiphone by Hades in order to find out who is responsible for trying to kill Plutus and therefore interrupting the fragile balance of who actually controls wealth.

As for Plutus, you have to look no further than to see that Callie and he would eventually find themselves attracted to each other. Plutus is a different sort of God in that he is blind, which goes hand in hand with the fact that he can’t choose who gets wealth and who doesn’t. He is also a cripple and his own parents may even be ashamed of his existence. How can Callie Not fall in love with him?

Death is but a Dream is a standalone story so there’s absolutely no worries that Erin Hayes will leave readers pondering what happen next. The best thing about standalones? There’s no cliffhanger ending to worry about!  Erin is a new author to me, and I will definitely check out her future work as well.

  1. Awesome review, Shelley! I love books with greek myth and this one sounds like a lot of fun. I also have not seen the god Plutus in any books I've read with the myth before! Glad you liked it! :)
