Bobby soon learns that she, Alice, and Pete are basically prisoners and experimental subjects of Xanthro after being brought to a military hospital in Scotland (which is quickly overrun with zoms) and we get to meet a very mysterious character named Russ who I immediately found suspicious and his background story lacking especially about the part of him being on the bus with the Scooby Gang.
Unfed is an action filled story that has everything from Zombinos (Children) to cows and crows and other animals who have been infected with the Zom virus attacking Bobby and crew. We also get a twist with zombies on a train which I found cool, as well as the crew under constant pressure to find Smitty and her mother before Xanthro can catch up to them and bring them back.
I think readers will come to like Bobby a bit more in Unfed. She remains snarky and brave. We get to see more of her background, and learn that her mother truly believed that she had the skills in order to survive anything, including being left alone in the middle of zombie central while she was no where in sight. The rest of the cast, Alice, is her usual sarcastic self with one line cut comments that you will either like, or won't. Pete is the nerd of the group and apparently has more skills than we've come to believe. Once Smitty does come back into the picture, he quickly picks up on a leadership role, and leads the gang through some trials and tribulations, especially when it comes to the train.
I tore through this book like a child with a bowl full of M&M's. The action was the right blend, and with the new twist of animals being infected, it made the story that much better. I am eager to read the next installment in this series to find out how it all pans out. There are so many different questions I have and will be interesting to see who survives until the end of the series.
