*Stacking the Shelves* # 112 Features Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers

Stacking the Shelves for the week of June 1 thru June 7, 2014

Stacking The Shelves is a fun way to show off the books we received over the past week in the hopes that you will find something that you will be interested in reading. As always, it is in no way, shape, or form to be considered bragging or sticking out our tongues at other bloggers.

Early Friday morning, my father passed away ending 18 months of battling pancreatic cancer. Thankfully, he went quietly, and painlessly thanks to the Hospice nurses charged with his care. I'm grateful that my mom and my sister were at his side when he passed.

I wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who sent me their condolences. YOU are the reason why I'm still sane. You are the reason why I continue to blog, and to write reviews and put together these posts.

  1. Oh my gosh! I am so sorry for your loss. I did not hear about that earlier. I am glad for you and your family that he at least went peacefully in his sleep. That's how my grandfather went a few months ago; he had colon cancer. I wish you and your family well during this time.

You got some great books there! I am eager to read Talon myself! I have a copy coming, but it has yet to arrive! The same with The Beautiful Reckoning! So stressful waiting for these particular reads! Hope you enjoy them all!

My STS will be up on Sunday, as usual! Stop by if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

    1. Thanks Grace :) Yes, it is. I haven't exactly mourned yet. We had 18 wonderful months with him hoping beyond hope that the cancer would find a way to go away.

    1. Pancreatic is the absolutely worst thing. There is no cure for it. You have to be really lucky in order to survive it. Glad I had mine for 18 months, and he went peacefully.

  7. Shelley, I am so sorry to hear about your father, but I'm glad your mom and sisters were with him, and that those working at the hospice were able to help him leave this world peacefully and without too much pain. I am sending you lots of love, hugs and positive thoughts, to help you deal with your grief.

On my STS today, you said something about Netgalley not showing the same titles to all people... I wish I had gotten my hands on the Jeaniene Frost book!! I hope you'll love both that, Talon and all the other goodies you got.

    1. I really appreciate the kindness Lexxie. It kind of sucks being alone knowing I won't be able to go home for the funeral. I keep hoping that I can find a way to laugh and think of the good things instead.

  8. I am so sorry for your loss. I'm a hospice volunteer and sometimes the hardest thing to see is not the patient's health declining, but the hurt that it brings the family. I'm sorry you had to go through that, it's the hardest thing to do.

    1. I have much respect for you then Danielle, because the nurses and support staff were absolutely fantastic according to my mom. They really are the unsung warriors in the battle for life and death.

    2. I'm glad you found some volunteers that really made it easier for you. I have a couple of ladies that I look after, but for some, I really feel like the family needs me more than the ladies do. It's such a hard thing to go through, and I'm so glad you found some support. Of course, we bloggers are always here to support you, too.
