*Early Book Review* White Knight (Cornerstone Run Trilogy #3) by Kelly Meade

**I received this book for free from (InterMix) via (NetGalley) in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!! This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.**

*Book Blurb*

Despite a month of peace from hybrid attacks, the constant threat of violence has the loup garou on edge. Knight McQueen’s home feels like a military compound and his people have become battle-weary soldiers. And Knight’s tenuous grip on his own self-control has been further damaged by the disappearance of the only woman whose touch brings him peace.

Held prisoner by her hybrid half-sisters and forced to care for an unknown child, Shay Butler’s quarterly is approaching but a silver-laced collar prevents her from shifting. As her time draws closer, her sanity begins to slip.

The opportunity to rescue Shay arrives when Magus enemy Archimedes Atwood requests a parley to discuss ways to end the conflict between their people and stop the rogue hybrids. Alpha Bishop McQueen agrees, bringing his brothers together to form a plan that will bring Shay home to Knight, stop the final two hybrids—and finally bring Archimedes to justice once and for all.

*My Thoughts*

White Knight closes out the Cornerstone Run Trilogy by featuring Black Wolf Shay Butler, and White Wolf Knight McQueen. Meade alternates her story between not only Shay, and Knight, but others who we've met along the way. When we finished reading Gray Bishop, the Cornerstone Run had been bamboozled by the hybrids, and Shay was taken against her will.

White Knight actually picks up a month later with Shay struggling to free herself, and learning more about her mother, sisters, and a shocking surprise that I'll bet no one sees coming. Shay's struggles are real. Her emotions are real, as are her feelings for Knight who saved her after her run was destroyed. I really do like how Shay came into her own even after all the pain and suffering she's been put through.

I'm glad she didn't spend most of her time wallowing in self pity, or once again withdrawing from the world. I liked how she became one of the "family" and even had her own ideas that were put to use. I also liked how she wasn't the perfect character, but tried to remain strong. She has issues, and does somethings that will make your head explode, but she's had more to deal with than even Brynn.

On the other side of the coin, Knight is a blithering mess most of the time, until he isn't. He continues to blame himself for everything that's happened, even 22 years ago, and refuses to TALK to anyone about what happened to him while with the hybrids. Now that I really know for sure what happened to Knight in the first book, his actions over the previous two books definitely make a whole lot of sense to me.

I should have guessed. I'm kind of embarrassed that I didn't. I can't rail against this happening and not be shocked that Meade used it against one of her characters. I'm happy that Knight actually grows up and admits what happened to him. I'm happy with Shay and Knight's romance, and the way that things slowly build up to Knight having the courage to do what needed to be done.

White Knight kind of let me down truth be told. I was definitely expecting a whole lot more than a book about healing and moving on. I was expecting more action, suspense, and yes, the bloodshed and body counts that Meade is notorious for. If you started reading this trilogy, you knew that the bad guys would reveal themselves, and there would be a final confrontation, winner take all. Even though White Knight had an interesting final confrontation with the hybrids, overall, I don't think it can compare to Black Rook.

We do get everything answered for us and everyone is happy having lots of sex, joyfully mated, but the book is also very predictable in how the story wraps up. I still feel for Brynn even after 3 books. Yes, she made her choice by marrying and staying with Rook, but she's really not like Jillian, or Shay who are respected by their peers, and get down and dirty with the bad guys. We still don't know about her Loup side, but apparently we do know what happens when she has a child with one.

In the end, White Knight is a suitable finale installment to the Cornerstone Trilogy, but I would have preferred a whole lot less of talking, and feel good moments, and more action. I'll probably be in the minority about this, but that is the way it goes at times.

  1. OOoh nice review! I'm still waiting for approval on this one! NG starting to scare me since I got the first 2 from them but have yet to get approved on this one! I have enjoyed the trilogy so far and look forward to reading this one!

Also, teeny tiny minor side note in the third paragraph from the bottom, you said Black Knight, instead of Black Rook. Just wanted to let you know so you could go back and correct.

All in all, great review! Really hoping my approval comes soon! :)

  2. I agree with you completely. While I love the series and I enjoyed this book, it wasn't what I wanted it to be. There was too much talking about feelings and not enough kicking ass. All in all, I do think the series wrapped up well. I will miss all the characters from Cornerstone. I can't wait to see what Meade has in store for use with her project.
