Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.

Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy's most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station's wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

But relax. They've totally got this. They hope.

Once again told through a compelling dossier of emails, IMs, classified files, transcripts, and schematics, Gemina raises the stakes of the Illuminae Files, hurling readers into an enthralling new story that will leave them breathless.

"Patience and Silence had one beautiful daughter and her name was Vengeance."

Gemina is the second installment in co-authors Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff's The Illuminae Files. Gemina, as the authors tell us, picks up pretty much where Illuminae left off, except for the fact that we now have different main characters and a whole new setting. Meet Hanna Donnelly and Niklas Malikov. I have to also say that it would behoove you to pay attention to Ella Malikova as well, since she is such a bloody brilliant, snarky, and awesome character who Hanna and Nik would have been lost without.

Hannah, captain's daughter, has no problem buying drugs from her supplier, or getting a slick new outfits to blow the pants of her paramore. Has been trained by her father in the art of war, and trains in martial arts to prepare herself for anything that can happen. Nik, Hannah's supplier, member of the House of Knives. Has tattoos that label him as a felon/killer, but pay close attention to his actual story. Also, MOOOOO! Ella, Nik's cousin, computer genius, stuck in a wheelchair due to a childhood disease that destroyed her body. There is a fourth character which like the previous book, was sort of an outsider who was keeping secret videos of the comings and goings of Hannah, Nik, and Ella. No spoilers.

So, yes, this story takes place on the Heimdall Station. It is an important part of the Wallace Ulyanov Consortium which finds itself under attack. Heimdall Station is preparing for Terra Day, when "auditors" aka BiTech Special Ops, shows up and takes over the station leaving uncooperative crew members dead. Heimdall Station is the next target of BiTech's Leanne Frobisher because she doesn't want anyone with any knowledge of what happened on Kerenza to testify against her.

Ella, Hannah, and Nik must put aside differences and work together to stop their friends and crew-members from being murdered by BiTech. They also have to save the lives of 2000 people on Hypatia who survived the first attack and Aidan's subsequent actions and are quickly approaching the station. Oh, guys and gals, you have to read this book if you liked the creepy factor of the previous books. EEEK! ::shiver:: If you thought the strange was only coming out in the previous book, you need to get this book and read what puts our hero and heroines in dire jeopardy.

So, who is my favorite you ask? Ella, no questions asked. After everything she went through as a child, and to still be magnificent, brilliant, and a damn intelligent character on the same level as Kady, is awesome. I love when authors use someone who has disabilities to tell their stories. Hannah started out as the busy little spoiled brat who only wanted to party, do some drugs, and maybe do the horizontal mambo with her boyfriend. But, after the station is attacked, she has to put all her nonsense behind and stand and deliver almost on the same level as Kady did. Nik, like Mason before him, is almost the comedy act of the book. Especially the scenes with the cows. ::zipping lips:: But, don't look past Nik like I almost did to Mason. You'll be sorry!

The sequel will release Fall of 2017, and will be set on the planet of Kerenza. I am happy to wait in anticipation for the next book to come out. I am happy to wait to find out if 2 new characters will be introduced, or whether Kady, Hannah, Ella, Mason, and Nik will be featured again.
