Ivy Granger takes on a simple grave robbing case, but in Harborsmouth nothing is ever simple when dealing with the dead. Grave robbing is Harborsmouth’s second best-kept secret. The first is the existence of supernatural creatures that live alongside the city’s humans. In fact, the dirtiest little secret of all might be the truth behind most of those empty graves. Most supernaturals eke out a pretty mundane existence.

Nobody wants a return to the Burning Times. Well, nobody sane. The creature that was stealing the more odoriferous of Harborsmouth’s citizens from their graves had to be crazy. Sir Gaius, ruler of the local vamps, owned the harvesting rights to every corpse buried within the city limits. No one touched the vampire master of the city’s property without permission and lived to scream about it—until now. Warning: This book features necromancy, grave robbing, an abandoned amusement park, and zombie clowns.

Blood Rite is the sixth novel in the award-winning Ivy Granger urban fantasy series by E.J. Stevens. The world of Ivy Granger, including the Ivy Granger, Psychic Detective series and the Hunters' Guild series, is filled with bloodsucking vampires, psychotic faeries, and snarky, kick-butt heroines.

Blood Rite, by author E.J. Stevens, is the Sixth installment in the author's Ivy Granger series. The series is told in the first-person point-of-view of Ivy Granger. If you haven't started this series yet, let me summarize. Ivy is a psychic detective, fairy princess, and demon mother to Sparky. She's about to marry her boyfriend Ceffyl who just happens to be the Kelpie King. If that weren't enough, she also shares an apartment with her best friend & partner Jinx who is her human vassal as well as Jinx's fiance Forneus who just happens to be a demon lawyer. Oh, let's not forget that Ivy also has psychometry.

Yep, Ivy has the ability to receive visions by touching an object. Comes in handy but it also comes with a cost which can be tricky when you are deep in kimchi or running from another villain set on world domination. Ivy has chosen to become a hero to Harborsmouth where this story is set. She has decided that nobody is going to mess with her people. She's been told by her friend Jenna, that a war is on the horizon. Truth be told, it's been on the horizon for awhile now. But, I digress.

The story begins when a master vampire named Sir Gaius (who calls Ivy a corpse candle) arrives at Ivy's doorstep. Someone is robbing Harborsmouth graves under his auspices and he wants it to cease immediately. Ivy, of course, agrees to investigate. This leads her, Ceffyl & Torn, the Lord of the Cat Sidhe, to discover that a powerful necromancer is in town. Said necromancer is raising all sorts of fae. This includes clowns, Minotaur's, gryphons, goblins, and leprechauns. Nothing is ever normal or natural whenever Ivy is involved. It's especially telling especially with who her bio mother is. Nope, not spoiling!

Ivy's relationship with Torn is always interesting to follow. He truly believes that Ivy is a hero who will protect her city at all costs. He, like Jinx & Ceffyl & Sparky, & yes, even Forneus for his baggage, are key parts of Ivy's life, so having him continue to hold a grudge over something that previously happened, is a waste of time and energy. The end of this story was by far the best part of the story. I won't bother spoiling it for you, but I will say it marks a new chapter in Ivy's life. Thankfully, I keep copious notes or I would have been lost. It has been several years since Hound's Bite was released, it will hopefully only be one more year until book # 7 is released.
