The truth won’t set me free—but it will probably get me killed ...

As Gin Blanco, aka the assassin the Spider, I’m used to having a target on my back. But ever since I started investigating the secret society known as the Circle, that target seems bigger than ever.

Still, I’m trying to relax and enjoy the events leading up to my friends’ wedding when I learn that an old enemy has returned to Ashland. And that’s the just beginning of my latest nightmare. Soon, I have Circle goons watching my every move, but I have no choice but to continue searching for a key piece of evidence against the evil group.

The deeper I dig, the more horrifying secrets I uncover, and the more dangerous things become for me and my friends. Just when I think I finally have a handle on things, a shocking revelation shatters my heart and leaves me with an ugly realization—that betrayal is the sharpest sting of all ...

Sharpest Sting, by author Jennifer Estep, is the 18th installment in her Elemental Assassin series. In this episode, Gin Blanco, assassin, and owner of the Pork Pit, is preparing for the wedding of the season. Her friends Mallory Parker and Stuart Mosley are getting hitched with all the bells and whistles that come along with it. Except, nothing is plain or simple when it comes to Gin and her friends. Gin has been on a crusade against a group known as the Circle or a while now. She has eliminated several key members, but the leader of the group won't be easily brought down.

Gin recently learned that she isn't the one who controls the underbelly of Ashland. The Circle does. One man in particular who has a familial connection to Bria and Gin. Gin has been following bread crumbs left behind by her former mentor Fletcher Lane as well as learning about her parents in an attempt to find a way to win. Have to say, Fletcher's background scenes have really rocked Gin to the core. The man behind the Circle isn't Mab Monroe, or any of the other villains that Gin has put down. This man could very well be her undoing as well as that of her sister, her lover, and every single one of her friends who continue to stand with her.

Gin comes to the realization that she can't protect her friends from the man who controls the Circle and thus Ashland itself. So, she makes a decision that I am not so sure it was the correct choice. Even though the choice is made, and the additional banter between Liam and Silvio ensue, Gin still has to face dire threats and dangers to her sister and her friends from the Circle and his thugs including one in particular who seems to have a hard on for Gin. So, what's the point? Oh sure, if you read the book to the end you will understand, but in the meantime, it's so unlike Gin to do this.

The one thing that surprised me in this book was Hugh Tucker and that is all I am going to say for fear you will ask me to reveal what happens. Nope. If you ask me if it's worth the time to continue to read this series, I will look you straight in the eye and say without reservation or hesitation, yes! I will also say, I do hope Ms Estep doesn't drag the confrontation out between Gin and the man too far down the road. I hope she finds her answers and some meaningful allies who have the ability to win without anyone else dying.

*I received this ARC directly from the author. No monies were exchanged for a positive rating. The review is my opinion and is not based on any input from any other reviewer*
