A gruesome case of grave robbing lands on Detective Constable Emma Bellamy's desk.  But is there more to it than meets the eye?

Being the sole police detective in London's Supernatural Squad is no easy task. I have to navigate my way through a world teeming with supernatural creatures, from vampires to werewolves and everything else in between. My inexperience might count against me but my own shocking supernatural abilities will stand me in good stead - especially when I'm confronted yet again by the gruesome spectre of death...

A vampire has been mysteriously killed in the centre of the city.

Werewolf graves have been plundered for their bodies.

And I think I might be developing an ill-advised crush on a certain black eyed vampire Lord.

"You shouldn’t fear the person who has practiced ten thousand kicks, you should fear the person who’s practiced one kick ten thousand times."

Infernal Enchantment is the second book in author Helen Harper's Firebrand urban fantasy series. It has been 6 weeks since Detective Constable Emma Bellamy was assigned to the Supernatural Squad where she is the only detective among a staff of three including Fred and Lisa. Emma thought she was human until the day she was murdered in a church graveyard and woke up 12 hours later in the morgue to the smell of sulfur and no clothes. She's been trying to keep her mysterious power a secret but vampire Lord Horvath, DSI Lucinda Barnes, Dr. Laura Hawes of Fitzwilliam Hospital morgue, and Reverend William Knight know she rose from the dead and the list will soon grow longer since Emma can’t help but get in trouble.

While dealing with werewolf and vampire games, Emma is asked to investigate the death of a young werewolf by his distraught parents who cannot accept that he chose to be made a werewolf and are blaming the pack for his subsequent death. Emma learns that the werewolf's remains are not in his coffin which leads her to a meeting with the world of Ghouls, a twisted man who believes he may be on the cusp of making himself immortal, and an opportunists named Devereaux Webb. But that’s not all. Horvath comes to Emma with a problem; a human thief appears to have killed one of his vampires and since the killer is apparently human, it's Emma's jurisdiction.

On her down time, she practices with her crossbow and learns that - every time she dies and resurrects - she gets stronger. Will an ancient book called Infernal Enchantments finally explain to Emma what she is? If you like dark twisty mysteries, smart heroines, and the faintest touch of slow burn romance, then you'll enjoy Harper's mystical adventure. In this setting, there are vampires, werewolves, and supernaturals like gremlins, and pixies who are classified as others, and of course what we now know about Emma. This is another quick turnaround. The sequel called Midnight Smoke releases on November 5, 2020.
