Lies from the heart lead to a dangerously intimate case for Sheriff Bree Taggert in #1 Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh’s novel of revenge and fatal deceptions.

When a digital marketer is found murdered in his backyard—hands bound and face smothered by plastic wrap—Sheriff Bree Taggert and criminal investigator Matt Flynn respond to the call. Their investigation focuses on the man’s dating-app profile and the word liar carved into his forehead.

One day later, the killer strikes again.

Both victims are players in the internet dating scene. In their wake, they leave a trail of hurt—and angry—women. But Bree and Matt aren’t convinced the motive is as simple as it appears. Everyone they interview seems to be lying or hiding something.

As the list of suspects grows, the killer’s rage escalates, and he leaves a personal and deadly warning for Bree. They must act fast. Because someone Bree loves is targeted as the next to die.

Melinda Leigh's Lie to Her is the 6th installment in the authors Bree Taggart series. First thing you should know is that I had not read any of the authors previous installments before requesting this via Kindle Unlimited. Second is that I have the 7th book in the series thanks to the publisher and wanted to read this since it appears both books are going to be connected in some ways. Third, this book is told in the first person narrative by the killer, while Bree and other characters like Matt Flynn are in the third person.

Bree Taggart was once a detective in Philadelphia until her sister was murdered and she decided to move back home to be with her sisters kids, as well as her brother Adam who is a well known and successful painter. Bree is now the Sheriff of a small town in Upstate New York where things are normally peaceful. And, yet, right out of the gate, the killer targets a man who apparently played the field when it came to women. Bree and her partner, Matt Flynn, who was a former police officer before he was shot in the hand, is now a criminal investigator.

One day later, the killer strikes a second time for basically the same reason. Each of the victims died of strangulation, and both victims had a world carved into their head.

*Thoughts* I have to recommend that if you try to read this series, you go back as far as you can. Bree is an interesting character, and so is Matt. Bree is getting antsy that it is both Christmas coming up, and the anniversary of her sisters death. She's trying hard to be both a Sheriff, and a steady figure for Luke and Kayla who she has custody of. Even though she has people screaming at her for action and answers in catching a killer, Bree doesn't jump for anyone. She's methodical in her investigation, and she has a partner who is stead fast loyal even after everything that happened to him. I like the fact that Bree and Matt can have an honest conversation, and neither feels as they are being scrutinized. I also know that there's a story behind what happened to her Chief Deputy, but I will have to research that later after I read book # 7. PS - If you hate snakes, I have a trigger warning for you.
