Dreams of the Damned is the third installment in author Lindsey Fairleigh's Atlantis Legacy series. The story picks up shortly after the ending of Fate of the Fallen. 4 days ago, 26-year old Cora Blackthorn consciousness was fully merged with Persephone, an Olympian warrior of the order of Amazon, in order to save her life. This makes for some interesting story lines since Cora has a crush on Raiden, while Peri finds that Hades makes her heart beat faster. 

For someone who was basically shuttered in doors for most of her life, fearing human touch would knock her unconscious, Cora combining with a battle hardened warrior like Peri gives her an actual chance to survive against her enemies. What we've learned. 12,000 years ago, a ship called Tartarus brought Peri's people to Earth after escaping an enemy called Tsakali. The Tsakali drover the Olympians from their home, and infected them with nano-virus to make them permanently infertile. 

The Tsakali have someone found out that there is a technology on Earth that they would love to get their hands on. It is estimated that they will reach Earth within two months if not sooner. Meanwhile, Hades technology that allows him to travel between universes. All he needs is a Chaos Stone which is a unique, sustainable power source that the Tsakali coveted. There is a Chaos Stone being created by the team at CERN under the name Project Atlantea. In order to get the stone, Hades suggests telling the United Nations of the threat to the planet and ask for assistance. 

Which means dealing once again with Henry Magnusson and Custodes Veritatis who Cora has had numerous encounters with. Since the beginning of this series, Henry has been obsessed with Cora going as far as calling her ancient one. Humanities greatest weakness is fearing what they don't understand. Custodes Veritatis mission is to protect humanity from the truth that humans are not alone in the universe. One could say that the United Nations is a bureaucratic behemoth which has outlived its usefulness and instead of paying attention to threats to the planet, they are more interested in what Cora is able to do. 

Thanks to some misguided thinking by Hades, Cora once again finds herself batting for survival while also enjoying the fact that she can now make herself invisible with her stone regulator and hoplon suit. Cora isn't alone with her abilities. She's added Meg, a talented psychic warrior who has a lethal case of solar urticaria which means all of her activities come at night. Cora's group also includes Fiona, Emi, Meg, and mother Diana. After yet another confrontation with Henry, readers learn why the Tsakali are on the way to Earth.

The one thing that we are learning along the way is that Cora/Peri needs to really examine their relationship with Hades. We discover that Hades has done some unfortunate things in the past 12,000 years which has lead to some of Peri's spear sisters being abandoned with no hopes of being rescued. I do hope Cora/Peri wake up to the fact that Hades shouldn't be fully trusted. I hope that in the next installment, we get to meet more of Cora/Peri's spear sisters, especially those not infected with the nano virus.

Fate of the Fallen is the second installment in author Lindsey Fairleigh's Atlantic Legacy series. Now that Cora Blackthorn knows she's sharing a consciousness with Peri (Persephone) a reincarnated Amazon warrior, she is determined to find Hades before her brain fractures. Her first stop in this story is the Amazon Rainforest along with Raiden Cross. Armed with Peri's Doru, her hoplon suit, and regulator, as well as a Hades memory sphere, Cora is desperate to find Hades. 

Unlike the myths, he is also an Olympian from Planet Olympus and apparently has been in cryo slumber off and on for thousands of years hoping to resurrect the Olympian's which he apparently has thousands in storage. Of course it's not an easy journey to find Hades when there is another group, the Custodes Veritatis, determined to get there first at any and all costs. Cora and Raiden's discovery of a remarkable people called Zari led by Ilyana, who has apparently been waiting for Peri or Hades to return, throws them for a loop. 

Ilyana knows all about the Custodes Veritatis since they once arrived and took all the priceless artifacts back to the Vatican with them. The same place where Cora and Raiden recently escaped from after solving Hades labyrinth. Hades created underground tunnels that look remarkably like the Tartarus  ship that brought Peri and the Olympians to Atlantis on. Atlantis is what the Olympias call Earth. Ilyana is technically an Atlantean not like Hades and Peri. Cora's issues are just beginning.

It doesn't help that the Primicerius of the Custodes Veritatis demands that Cora declare her loyalty to them and their mission which she has no intention of doing. I think I've said this before, but I'll say it again. If you liked Lara Croft Tomb Raider or Stargate, this series is right up your comfort zone. There is plenty of action as the author takes readers from the Amazon Rainforest to Ireland to Egypt in search of answers and of course, Hades who may have to intercede in saving Cora from losing her self entirely. Cora's connection with Peri gives her a grab bag of psychic gifts, but it may also end up killing her unless she can find Hades. 

The cast of this story actually expands a bit when a girl named Meg tries to kidnap her at her mother's urging and ends up becoming bound to Cora which means if one of them dies, both of them dies. Meg is a good addition since there are things she knows that actually help, not hinder, Cora's search for Hades.  We also get the return of Diana Blackthorn who stole Peri from the Custodes, Emi Cross who is Raiden's mother, and Fiona, a game researcher who is best friends with Cora and owns her own castle in Ireland.  

This series is all about ancient mysteries, Greek mythology, treasure-hunting adventurers, and dynamic characters. What is Hades really hiding? Eternal life? Priceless treasures or knowledge of the ages? What happened to the rest of the Olympians on Earth?

Author Lindsey Fairleigh's Legacy of the Lost is the first book in the authors Atlantis Legacy sci-fi adventure series. If you like ancient mysteries, Greek mythology, treasure-hunting adventurers, and dynamic characters, then you’ll love this exhilarating adventure. I'd compare this story to Lara Croft meets Indiana Jones meets Stargate. 26-year old Cora Blackthorn is a prisoner of her own body and mind. Raised by her archaeologist mother Diana Crane, she’s rarely left the island due to her condition. Whenever she touches someone, she immediately falls unconscious.

Cora lives vicariously through virtual reality with her online friend, Fiona. But, when her mother who has been missing for 11 days sends her a package from Rome, Cora’s world unravels. Cora learns she’s apparently not human, but a member of the ancient Atlantean race that Diana carried to term and raised as her own. In the package are items that Diana felt Cora would need to help with her episodes. A golden teardrop necklace and an orb filled with mysterious liquid and a letter. 

“I’m so sorry. These should help. You won’t have to live in fear anymore. I wish I’d figured this out sooner. Everything could have been so much easier for you. Better late than never, I hope. I’m sorry, sweetie. I love you.”

Cora may very well be the last living member of species that came to Earth thousands of years before humanity existed. To make matters worse, there is a group known as Custodes Veritatis, aka The Guardians of the Truth, who would do anything to get their hands-on Cora for their own research and whatever else they can come up with. Things really heat up when her own home is invaded, and she is forced to flee with Raiden from San Juan Islands, eventually making their way to Italy while hiding from the Custodes Veritatis. While finding Diana is the most important thing for Cora, getting answers about her own existence is really what this book is about.

Parts of this book are told through the eyes of Persephone who was apparently an Amazon Warrior. Persephone is also in Cora’s head which allows the reader to get a better understanding at who Persephone is and why we should care. Cora learns a lot from Persephone including how to fight using martial arts as well as her staff.  Ancient secrets below the Vatican, a group within of highly specialized people searching for Atlantean information that will stop at nothing to gain it and now Cora, a connection to a long dead Amazonian Warrior, and bad ass Doru staff which you can see on the cover, and a labyrinth of twists and turns and surprises as well as a betrayal you probably will see coming if you pay close attention to the hints the authors lays out for you.
