Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?
I can honestly say that NO, I have not purchased a book that had negative reviews. I have borrowed a book or two from my local library just to see what the whole negative review is about. In fact, I pretty much won't purchase any books by LKH (Anita Blake) but I will borrow them to see if the series gets any better. Right now, I'm reading Bloodrose which wasn't all that popular from a bunch of my GR friends due to various happenings within the storyline. It seems you should really trust your GR friends more times than not!
So, what book have you read to see what all the hub-bub was about?
Thanks for stopping by!
~Shelley~
Ah yes, Bloodrose! I kinda just want to read that one (haven't read the first two) to see what all the hype is about, lol!
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Miss V and Mariya's review, I'm totally scared to get to the end of this book!
DeleteThanks for hopping by!
Bloodrose...haven't read it, but won't based on Miss Vain's review. If it's a trusted reviewer that hates a book, then I won't read it. If it's a bad review from a random person that I just happen to look at, then I'll probably still read the book!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
I'm kicking myself at the moment for reading this after Miss V and Mariya reviewed it lower than I expected. But, hey, it's a library book! I can return it tomorrow and not have to worry about losing any money or sleep it I end up hating it.
DeleteThanks for stopping by Jamie!
The negative reviews always make me curious as well, borrowing them is a good idea rather than buying them.

Yes, I guess you could just borrow a book with a bad review and then there's no risk, right? New follower! (I love your blog design, btw)

I know right! I mean why have all these awesome friends and not care what they have to say?
DeleteHappy Friday!
Goodreads is usually the place I go to if I have a book in hand and I am contemplating reading it. I will go to goodreads to see what kind of reviews it got. I have it instantly on my phone. But even then if I really want to read it I will get it regardless. =D

I finished Bloodrose not too long ago, I avoided it because I knew parts of what happened and I was pretty mad, but I still bought the book because I can't not have uncompleted collections.

I dunno if I ever bought a book just because of ONE negative review, but I have read books because of reviews that weren't exactly complimentary. *g*
ReplyDeleteOld follower hopping through. :)

Returning stop and follow. I made it through a chapter of Bloodrose and moved on to another book. I'll finish it eventually:)
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you about the Anita Blake series. But I do love her Mercedes Gentry series - maybe try that one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog too!

if the reviews are good and people are raving about a particular book then i'll check it out. if it's the opposite i don't bother with it!

ReplyDeleteMy Answer: No, Reviews matter a lot to me. Not unless the book became controversial that I would really feel the need to read that book.

See? we can't always rely on bad reviews! I love LKH's books, and I bought them all. :) LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way - I'd rather borrow than buy. I have a lot more books that I'd rather buy with the $10-$15 I have!

Agree with not purchasing Anita Blake. That is one of the authors I just steer clear from like a plague! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
