Together, they embark on a quest to unlock her hidden magical potential, desperate to uncover the extraordinary powers that lie dormant within her.

Carissa Andrews' Secret Legacy is the first installment in the authors The Windhaven Witches series which is now completed. 20-year-old Autumn Blackwood gets a very unusual surprise when a letter from Windhaven Academy arrives. Windhaven is a school for those with unique supernatural abilities. To the best of her knowledge, Autumn doesn't have any magical abilities, nor did she apply to the school. But for some reason, Autumn has received not only an acceptance letter, but a scholarship to cover the costs of her schooling thanks to an anonymous donor.

Autumn is supposed to be present for an orientation called The Witching Stick which is supposed to tell others what her particular gift is. After a chance, or intentional meeting with Wade Hoffman, in a cemetery, which includes some Buffy like flirting between the two, Autumn makes the choice to travel to see her father who she hasn't heard from in over a year and check out why she was chosen to attend Windhaven Academy. Oh, and yes, points off for the insta-romance that happens almost immediately.

But attending Windhaven Academy means confronting her estranged father and taking up residence in his creepy ancestral home, rumored to be haunted. Can she face her fears and survive the ominous mysteries lurking within? For the record, it has been many years since Autumn lived in Blackwood Manor. A manor that my hold the answers to Autumn's past, as well as meeting with a pair of twins who have elemental magic, and another who tries to tell Autumn that things would be so much clearer if she would just open up her mind.

When Autumn Blackwood shows up at Windhaven Academy for the Witching Stick Orientation, she hopes to find out what dormant powers she could possibly possess to have been accepted to the elite supernatural school. Instead, the academy is in chaos as everyone frantically hunts for two missing girls. But as school begins with Autumn no closer to figuring out her powers, strange occurrences start to follow her everywhere. Even at home, Blackwood Manor keeps many secrets, and Autumn can't escape its haunting past.

New friends urge her to learn more about her family's history in order to unlock her powers and make sense of what's happening at Blackwood Manor, but Autumn's not so sure. Once an accident brings Autumn face-to-face with death, however, she realizes her gifts are tied to a legacy that can either save or doom them all.

*Thoughts* So, let's talk about the insta-love between Autumn and Wade. Wade who is as mysterious as they come who seems to have been waiting for Autumn. Wade who has a deep dark secret of his own which you learn about later in the story after it is revealed what Autumn's secret legacy is, and why people are so strange around her, or seem to know who she is. While the MC is 20, this story is definitely written with a younger audience in mind. The synopsis claims that as the series goes, and the MC grows, the story will get more adult orientated. Personally, I would have liked to learn more about the Academy itself, but the story's premise was based on learning about Autumn and why anyone should care.
