*Release Day Review* Alien Collective (Katherine "Kitty" Katt #9) by Gini Koch

**I received this book for free from Penguin/DAW in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.**

*My Thoughts*

Gini Koch has created a monster with the Katherine "Kitty" Katt series that continues to grow and we are only on book # 9! There are literally hundreds of characters involved in this story, with our intrepid heroine Kitty Katt-Martini leading the way for the good guys against the evil villains led by the mysterious Mastermind who has his Apprentices, some horrible politicians, Death Dealers, lobbyists, Anti-Alien groups like Club-51 and the Church of Intolerance, and those who are just scared of the unknown, trying hard to prevent her husband Jeff from becoming the next Vice-President of the United States.

Over the past 4 and a half years, Kitty has gone from being a marketing director, to a thorn in the sides of those who terrorize innocent people. She's gone from not knowing that aliens really exist, to marrying a drop-dead gorgeous Alien in Jeff Martini, and having a daughter with him.

She's killed several MEGA-Aliens with hair spray, and an assortment of useful weapons, including a flamethrower, and has become the Bad Guys Number One target to be eliminated at all costs! As Alien Collective opens, it has been 6 months since the events of Alien Research and Kitty is still the Ambassador for the American Centaurions who have given their lives in order to protect the world from evil both on and off this planet. Kitty and her crew are still searching for the Hacker known as Chernobog who nearly brought the group to their knees, while at the same time, trying to local Ronald Yates illegitimate offspring. Kitty's challenges apparently are just getting to the tipping point in knowing who her true enemies are.

You seriously must read this series in order in order to get the Kittisms and the various snarky comments and names she comes up for people she meets. If you have read this series from the beginning, you know exactly what I mean. I love that in Kitty. She may not be the sharpest tool in the shed at times, and people are always rolling their eyes at her mischief and comments. But, when you need a way to fight back and win, Kitty is always on point!

You do need a scorecard to separate the good guys from the bad guys, and I suggest you keep a pad of paper and pen handy while reading this book. There times that I end up tossing my scoreboard up in the air because Koch teases us with morsels that I hope will soon lead to the revelation of the person behind the Mastermind mask. Kitty also has a tendency of proving to the bad guys that she's isn't the enemy. She's talked more than a few people into joining Team Kick-ass.

I wanted to send a humorous message to Gini and ask her if I was right in my guess as to whom the Mastermind really is, but found myself in an interesting interview with her character Kitty instead. I won't go any further, but if you have made it to this point in the series, then you have probably guessed more than a few times that it was someone within Kitty's realm of so called friends, and family.

Alien Collective does change things for Kitty, her family and friends. Where Koch goes from here will be interesting to read about. I can't wait for December, and the release of Universal Alien! Sounds like it will be a helluva ride!

  1. This series has been on my radar for a while but I thought it might be a little too sci-fi for me, after reading your review I'm tempted to throw those thoughts out the window and take a chance on it! Thanks for the great review.
