Reap the Wind is the SEVENTH installment in Karen Chance's Cassandra Palmer series. Reap the Wind picks up right where Tempt the Stars left off. Chief Seer, Time Traveler, Clairvoyant, and Ghost Whisperer Cassie Palmer is off on yet another adventure to save her friend and mentor John Pritkin from being lost forever.
As the story begins, Cassie and Pritkin's father Rosier are back in the 18th Century hoping to be there when Pritkin's soul arrives. As the result of a regression curse, Pritkin will continue to go back in time until Cassie can use her counterspell. Upon arrival, they not only meet the era's Pritkin, but Cassie inadvertently catches the attention of several Pythias from various eras who make things really interesting.
This really is a theme for this book. Cassie with Rosier along for the ride, ends up going backwards in order to find Pritkin who has been cursed, then they return to the present where everyone wonders what Cassie is up to. She returns bloody, dirty, and looking like she's been mud wrestling. In the president, there is a war brewing between Ares and the former Pythias's acolytes, and Cassie's allies the Mages, and Vampires.
I dare say that the past scenes are the most entertaining and the most action packed you will find in this entire book. But, don't ignore the fight that is brewing in the present, or the fact that Cassie is done taking orders and shit from anyone. That means that Mircea and Jonas no longer have a whipping girl they can push around. I believe this is what readers have been hoping from Cassie all along.
Yes, we know that she was tossed into the fire without any training. But, she has come a long way in the three months since her life has changed. It has been seven books, and perhaps finally Chance has decided to make Cassie the heroine that we expect, vs the underdog we've been keeping our fingers crossed since she lost her mentor, Agnes.
I am completely exhausted after reading Reap the Wind. The action scenes are outrageous, breath taking, spectacular, awesome, and stunning in their length. I dare say that they remind of a summer blockbuster movie. I did like the fact that Cassie has a whole group of people who are her supporters, and would do anything for her, including give their lives. I believe that sometimes, for Cassie especially, it is better to be lucky that skilled.
I am completely on board with Rhea, Tami, Rico, and Marco being on Cassie side. I adore Rhea. She's such a wonderful addition to Team Cassie, and gives Cassie an interesting history lesson. I adore Tami because she finds a way to deal with things that allow Cassie to focus on Ares and his impending invasion.
I'm ready for the never ending inability of Cassie bringing Pritkin back to the present without a whole lot of heart break and interference from others. I am done with the cliffhanger endings. I am finished being anything but Team Pritkin. I need the sex scenes between Cassie and Mircea to end. I just don't trust the damn vampire. I am eager to read the next installment called Ride the Storm which releases April 5, 2016 by Signet.
