#1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews continues her new Hidden Legacy series.

Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she’s used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family’s detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor “Mad” Rogan.

Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada’s “talent”. But there’s no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice…

White Hot is the second installment in author Ilona Andrews' Hidden Legacy series. This series is set in a alternative reality Texas (mostly Houston) where powerful magical families run the city. 25-year old Nevada Barr is the lead investigator in her family run Baylor Investigative Agency. Nevada, as the main protagonist, is able to use her talent to figure out when someone is lying or not, and she is able to compel someone to spill their secrets, something that is very useful if someone in one of the houses figures out what she is capable of.

White Hot picks up several months after Burn for Me. (Note: the first book released in 2014, so it has been several years since we've had a new book. Good idea to go back and catch up with the series before he third book releases in July.) Burn for Me is where we met the dangerous, and sexy Connor "Mad" Rogan, aka the butcher of Merida. Nevada is drawn to him like a moth to a flame. Rogan is a prime with really powerful magical abilities. If you read the first book, then you know how dangerous he really is. You will also love meeting Bug!

Nevada once again finds herself working with Augustine, and Montgomery International Investigation. She picks up a new client whose wife was recently murdered. As Nevada agrees to investigate, she reunites with Rogan who see hasn't seen or heard from in two months, and finds herself embroiled in a House conflict with too many suspects, and little to ensure that her family doesn't become another casualty. This is the first time that readers will have a front row seat to the Texas Assembly where powerful magical users meet to discuss world domination.

Looking for a bit of steamy romance? There is, in fact, one particular scene that most of you will gobble up like Turkey on Thanksgiving Day. Oh, did I say it goes on for several pages? I really loved this story. I loved that Nevada really uses her skills, and she is anything but a pushover. Her family really brings a smile to my face. Frida (Grandma) who is the families heavy duty mechanic; Penelope (Mother) veteran and sniper. Bernard is the hacker of the family. There isn't any place he can't get into. Nevada's sisters (Catalina & Arabella) show real promise in this story, and can't wait to see what happens in the next story. Of course, there is Leon who worships the very ground that Rogan walks on. Leon is the wild card in this series.

In closing, I am eager to pick up Wildfire, which I already have, and find out how the author resolves some really curious storylines. White Hot grabs your attention right from the opening, leaves you with awesome characters who won't ever be accused of being Mary Sue's. The world building once again top notches. This story is action packed, while leaving you with some very interesting information regarding Rogan, and his background.
