The Immortals rescued Darcie from the hands of their enemy, but her safety is far from secure.

Darcie is back in Maine and eager to forget the trauma and unbelievable truths forced upon her. Enrolling in classes, getting a part-time job, and finally snagging her childhood crush have the teenager hoping all involvement with the immortals will stay in the past.

Meanwhile, stoic and withdrawn Des continues to deny any connection with Darcie. The Immortal aims to convince others of his indifference for the human teenager while he and his family work tirelessly to ensure Darcie’s continued safety. Their efforts prove ineffective when she is attacked by rebels as they try to abduct her for their cause.

Now, the seventeen-year-old is introduced to the other players in the Immortal’s game. Half-breed offspring are taking sides in the rebellion, and Darcie is thrown in the middle as the immortals try to motivate allegiances for the good of the world and survival of mankind.

It seems Darcie may play a bigger role in the Immortal Chronicles than ever expected.

Ensnared is the second installment in author Samantha Britt's Immortal Chronicles. This book picks up 2 weeks after the ending of Enlightened. Des, Thane, & Lome rescued Darcie Abernathy from Adir who is leading an all out rebellion against the brothers and their supporters in the Nine original immortals. Adir wants to manipulate humans for his own gain after centuries of being told no. The rebellion is also growing on Adir's belief that Darcie is Des' soul mate aka the One and he will do anything to prevent the match from happening.

Meanwhile, Darcie just wants her old life back in Maine. A life that doesn't include immortals in it. A life that somehow manages to find Darcie giving her old crush Kevin at chance at romance. So, while Darcie is working part time, she's also attempting to attend college which she has been dreaming of ever since she finished High School early while traveling with her father  She learns that wards have been placed around Brunswick to prevent her from being discovered by other immortals. But, life doesn’t always give us what we want. Especially with the brothers and their wives visiting her on a regular basis.

Just after the first visit by Lome, Darcie experiences a vivid dream, where she observes Des interrogate Adir. She also learns that a cut on her hand has healed unusually fast, causing her to begin to wonder if there is something else going on that she does not understand. These experiences are revealed to Lome during his next visit but he is uncertain what it all means. After a planned Girls Night Out with Marie, Eshe & Darcie, the girls are attacked. A group of vampires come to their rescue. Darcie mentally calls out to Des during the assault & he somehow hears her & shows up.

A little over half way through the book, Kevin believes Darcie is cheating on him and she's once again pulled into the world of the Immortals by returning to Greece. Darcie is permitted to observe an Immortal meeting where she learns Adir has requested to only negotiate with her. The Council votes in agreement to allow this to happen, despite Des’ feelings against it. Enter a character. Alexander is a vampire who has managed to become part of the brothers hopes against Adir.

Alexander knows that Adir isn't to be trusted, but wants to know what Adir is up to and what he has planned when it comes to her. Alexander charms Darcie from the first time they meet and becomes a valuable ally from here on out. Darcie is now fully engaged in the immortal rebellion which will have lasting challenges for Darcie to overcome. Especially when the big revelation happens and Darcie learns who she really is. Darcie takes more control of the situations she is placed in and begins to become a more interesting character overall.

There are some storylines that are still up in the air. How will Darcie and Des resolve their issues? Will Alexander become a third part of the triangle of romance? Will Adir get away with what he has done to Marcie? Will Darcie ever stop pouting like a pre-teen, or is this what we readers have to look forward to in the next (2) installments? I was a bit surprised by the authors determination to knock Kevin out of the story and create a deep divided between Marcie and her best friend, Marie. Des was stubborn and adamant that Darcie wasn't his soul mate but his emotions finally reach the surface. His cool demeanor around Darcie is breaking; showing that's he's clearly affected and he feels for her, more than he's letting on.

Onward and upward!
