The Vampire King is dead…

So now I’m on the run from his maniacal successor, with a critically wounded vampire prince who needs feeding and the maid who loves him at my side.

And I thought the Harvest Games were bad…

To make matters infinitely worse, I’m pretty much obsessed with the General of the Vampire Army, who—spoiler alert—has been tasked with leading the hunting party sent to kill me and my not-so-merry band of misfits. The only chance we have of getting through this mess alive is to throw ourselves at the mercy of the neighboring werewolves and hope they don’t rip us to shreds. They are the key to defeating the newly crowned “King” Edmund and saving the Vampire Kingdom from a return to the old days. Days filled with unchecked cruelty, torture, and mayhem.

It would take a little cunning and loads of audacity to even attempt to negotiate an alliance between two species that have been warring for centuries.

Luckily, I’ve got both in spades.

Hunted by Fate is the second installment in author Shannon Mayer's The Alpha Territories series. This story picks up right where Taken by Fate left off, but with a little prequel featuring Duchess Evangeline in a time that is undetermined. It appears that Evangeline has a few secrets up her sleeve which leads to an appearance of a child born from both human and vampire. A child you will find later in the story.

If you read the first installment, you know that Sienna, who intentionally got her caught in order to make her way to the Werewolf Territory to find her friend Jordan, was instead purchased by Dominic, the General of the Vampire Territory army. For awhile Sienna was forced into participating in the Harvest Games until King Stirling was found dead, likely by poison. Edmund, being the oldest, has assumed the role of King and putting every human within the territory as nothing more than play toys for the vampires.

Sienna has since escaped with Bethany, a girl who has been in the Vampire territory for 5 years, and William, the Prince of the Vampire territory, who was poisoned. With Dominic being told to hunt down Sienna and William by Edmund, Sienna's only hope is to reach the Werewolf territory and hope Dina, Queen of the Werewolves, has an open mind. One of the more curious aspects of Sienna, is that she has some unusually strong magical abilities. Magical abilities she has no clue where they came from.

Thankfully, those abilities help save not only William, but another character later in the story. Along the way relationships wax and wane, loyalties are questioned, and new alliances are made. Sienna and Dominic soon reunite and things get very interesting, as well as Sienna learning about her best friend, Jordan's fate. Readers are also introduced to some new characters like Lycan, the former King of the Werewolves, Diana (leader of the Wolves). We also get a little background about one of my favorite characters, Evangeline.

Danger follows Sienna everywhere she goes and this territory is no different. The more Sienna’s life is in danger the more her powers seem to spark leaving everyone, including herself, wondering just what she is. As usual, Mayer tosses in a prophecy for one of her characters, and no I won't say who since it seems to be a way to ensure that war will not spill over to the Human world between Werewolves and Vampires, maybe even Demons and Angels.
