*Gizmos Early Reviews* Under the Final Moon (Underworld Detection Agency # 6) by Hannah Jayne

**I received this book from NetGalley / Kensington Books in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.**

*Synopsis*

It's not the end of the world--until it is. Sophie Lawson may be a mere human with no special abilities except a strong immunity to magic. But the havoc she's wreaked on the supernaturals who come up against the Underworld Detection Agency have earned her plenty of enemies. Still, a girl can't freak out every time a horribly barbecued corpse is found with her business card in its hand. Or see a sudden glut of earthquakes, wildfires and three-headed dogs as just another day in California. But Alex Grace, her favorite fallen angel, is concerned--or saying he is to see more of her. Getting Sophie to see all the signs of the Apocalypse is an interesting way to heat things up. Or maybe what's making everyone hot under the collar is the fact that all Hell is about to break loose.

*My Thoughts*

Under the Final Moon, which features Sophie Lawson as its protagonist, is supposedly the final installment in the Underworld Detection Agency series. Sophie is the only "breather" aka human who works for the Underworld Detection Agency in keeping human eyes away from the supernatural. If you haven't read this series before now, you might want to reconsider jumping straight into this story. There are characters, situations, and silliness galore that you truly won't have any idea of what is happening if you do.

Sophie has no special abilities, per se, except for the fact that she has a strong immunity to magic, while being unable to practice it herself. She has the ability to see through the veil (IE see the paranormal for what they really are), and is the current holder of the Vessel of Souls (entity where souls not yet ready for heaven or hell are stored). Sophie has been the head of the Fallen Angels Division since finding out she had a sister who was just plain evil.

Evil has a tendency of dropping by Sophie's crib whenever things are quiet, or in need of excitement. This time out, Daddy has decided to drop by San Francisco for a nice visit with his daughter, and is bringing earthquakes, fires, Cerberus, and a slew of Grigori warriors along with him. With all the signs of the upcoming Apocalypse all around her, can Sophie and her Scooby-gang stop him before it's too late?

Sophie's gang of misfits includes her roommate and best friend Nina LaShay (vampire), Alex Grace (earthbound Fallen Angel & SFPD detective), Will Sherman (Vessel Guardian & Firefighter), Pete Samson (Werewolf & head of UDA), Vlad (vampire nephew to Nina and Sophie's immediate boss) along with Kale (witch) and Lorraine (witch).

I will say that if you are adverse to 3-way love triangles, then you should probably be like me and just keep rolling with the story while attempting not to pull out all your hair. You see, we are never going to be rid of this facet in our lives because there are readers and publishers who truly believe that it is entertaining. For Sophie, she is stuck between a rock and a hard place. She has this hot detective who she can't stop thinking about, while another stands by her side as her Guardian. Under the Final Moon decides Sophie's final choice for her, and in my opinion, it is the correct one.

The UDA series is very tongue in cheek. You really can't take the covers, or characters like Nina, all that seriously. The covers themselves are as Sophie wants to be, and thus she dreams of being the kick ass heroine that everyone would fall to their knees to embrace including wearing hot leather, thigh high boots, and impressive weaponry. For someone who is supposed to have brains, Sophie does some of the craziest things imaginable, which includes cooking vegan burgers to lure out Cerberus from hiding.

For a final book of a series, this book has let me down. I didn't like the ending. It was just there, and then it stopped. Perhaps it was because the author has already moved onto her next project, and wanted to wrap this series up as fast as she could.
