Contact the Obsidian Order. Stay alive. Don’t touch the Horseman.

I was sent to Harrowgate Prison by the Obsidian Order to investigate, and assassinate, a man known as the Horseman of Devil Falls. At first I had a directive, a purpose, and a handler that served as my link to the outside.

Now my handler is missing, my purpose is unknown, and my directive is murky.

I was supposed to kill the Horseman, but I soon learn I'm not the only one with the same idea. Someone else is out to kill him; someone with brutal weapons capable of bringing even the Horseman low.

He tells me I'm the only person he can trust, and that he needs my help uncovering the identity of the ones trying to kill him. With my handler gone, it turns out he's the only one I can trust in here, too.

We're going to have to trust each other if we want to get through this, and hope we don't fall too hard for each other in the mean time.

Dust Stalker is the second installment in author Katerina Martinez' The Devil of Harrowgate series. The story continues from where Night Hunter left off. Our lead character, Six, is in a pickle. She was sent to Harrowgate Prison by the Obsidian Order to investigate and assassinate a man known as the Horseman of Devil's Falls. The trouble is that her point of contact in the prison is missing, the Warden is a really powerful entity who may be on to her, Six's fellow prison mates have tested her in ways you can imagine, she's got a new cellmate named Alexa, her only real friend Azlu is an arachnid who speaks to an entity called Mother, oh, and the Horseman is apparently being targeted by an unknown group for assassination which puts them and Six on a collision course.

The one thing that changes about this story is that it doesn't take place entirely in Harrowgate, and Six isn't the only narrator. We actually get a look into who the Huntsman in right out of the gate. The Huntsman is known for his tactical instincts, his brutality, and the power of the tempest, now has a target on his back. Someone wants him dead which means that he and Six make an alliance with benefits. There's a scene where Six and Huntsman end up fighting together against the Crimson Hunters who are a faction of Outsiders who once kept her captive. They are brutal, savage killers who like to take trophies of their prey after they've finished eating whatever they can.

There are plenty of sexy moments to keep die hard sex fans from straying to something else. One of the most interesting parts of this story happens right at the end of this story. I am absolutely committed now to seeing what happens next. I want to know more about the Warden. I want to know about those who have targeted the Horseman. I want to know about Azlu's "mother" who seems to know a whole lot about what is going on. I want to know if Six can really trust her new roommate who has enough of her own secrets to keep things interesting.

So, this book has a whole lot of things I like, and not so much. I loved the fight scenes. I want more. I liked that Six doesn't need any help from anyone. She can take care of herself even against the most diabolical villains of this story. I liked seeing more of who the Huntsman, while also keeping some things back. It's an interesting alliance between Six and Huntsman, but I wonder if it can actually last with the mysterious Warden, as well as the Obsidian Order which seems to have issues of their own. Not a fan of cliffhanger endings, but the next installment in releasing in a few months.
