Books in this Series:

Fear Justice
Fear Power
Fear Darkness
Fear Tomorrow

Fear Darkness, by author C.C. Bolick, is the third installment in the authors Fear Chronicles series. Rena Mason is a recent recruit to Earth Under Fire, a group created to monitor humans with powers and protect the masses from rogue hostile powers. Rena has the ability to start and stop explosions, but she still needs to grow her confidence. It's still lacking and she needs to be afraid in order for her powers to actually work. Rena refuses to let the agency control her anymore. She and genetics specialist Erin Watts escape the confines of the agency and is on the run.

She expects to be caught and brought back and put in isolation like Travis is. Regardless, Rena is pretty much stuck unless she loses her powers or dies. After returning to Atlanta, word gets back to her that Louis Castillo, who believes he's Rena's father and wants her with him, has captured her father and brother in Spain. Rena makes a deal with a rogue operative from the planet Golvern named Van who has orders to keep her safe to take her to Spain where they learn that Louis has Golvern technology. How?

The story also revolves around Travis Payne who is an agent with (4) powers like teleportation, seeing the future, causing the earth to shake, and burning a persons skin with a touch. Unfortunately, thanks to Director Sylvia Greene, he opens the story in a coma preventing him from using his powers, but ends up being going to Golvern after the Queen requests a meeting. The Queen can see the future and hints of something horrible to come soon where she will ask certain people for forgiveness for what happens next. Travis reunites with his father Noah Payne who disappeared for 13 years and gets another surprise as well.

There's a lot to talk about including Rena's own mother and father's betrayal. Without spoiling anything, the ending is rather shocking and stunning and will lead to what happens in the final installment in this series. Everything will be revealed soon!

Series: The Fear Chronicles # 4
Format: Kindle, 271 pages
Release Date: May 21, 2020
Publisher: Dirt Road Books

Genre: Young Adult / SyFy

For the first time in his life, Travis Payne doesn’t want to be an agent. He can’t focus beyond his grief at the thought of losing Rena. The clock ticks as everyone knows his powers will soon return, and those who betrayed Travis could face his deadly touch.

Rena Mason never imagined life would change this drastically. She also never thought her own parents would betray her. Now she’s faced with only one choice—strengthen her powers while turning her back on the future she’d planned with Travis.

In twenty-four hours, two planets will be destroyed. Can Rena and Travis work together to save everyone they care about?

Fear Tomorrow, by author C.C. Bolick, is the third & final installment in the authors Fear Chronicles series. Travis Payne takes the lead for awhile. Golvern and Earth are in trouble. The Queen of Golvern has seen a future where both planets are tied together and will be destroyed thanks to Louis Castillo and his allies. The Queen believes that Rena has the power to stop the destruction of both planets by one of Golvern's suns which lead to what happened at the end of the previous story.

Spoiler! Rena no longer has a body thanks to the betrayal of her parents, (especially her own mother who keeps the truth from her time and time again), Van who shot her, and the Queen who believes that she has the capability and powers to stop the destruction of Golvern and Earth. According to the Queen, Rena needs to be like her mother whose powers grew exponentially when she died. Of course, Rosanna took over another body! Unlike when she was alive, the darkness no longer scares her. She needs to be challenged to build up as much power as she can to save the planets. Over the course of the story, Rena will be tested to see how much power she can actually wield. Can she stop what's to come? Will she become like her mother and wear another persons body?

#Review - Fear Power by C.C. Bolick #YA #Fantasy

Series: The Fear Chronicles #2
Format: Kindle, 219 pages
Release Date: November 14, 2019
Publisher: Dirt Road Books
Source: Kindle Unlimited
Genre: Young Adult / Fantasy

Rena Mason once feared never being able to explore her feelings for Travis. Now she fears not being able to save everyone she cares about. As her fear grows, so does her power. With Travis's help, she fights to uncover what really happened to her mom, along with the secrets her dad still hides.

When a renegade agent puts Rena in the agency's crosshairs, other agents question their ability to contain her. If she could just figure out how to fly without crashing to the ground, maybe she could control her powers.

With threats from Louis, Rena prepares to face the truth about her family. But not all threats come from the outside. As Rena will learn, she can't trust everyone at the agency...

Fear Power is the second installment in author C.C. Bolick's The Fear Chronicles. Timeline wise, the events of this story takes place 6 weeks from the end of Fear Justice. Protagonist Regina (Rena) Wilson has the power to stop and start nuclear bombs. She finds herself once again reunited with her father, and her brother under the power of an agency that was created to monitor humans who have powers and protect the public. As the story opens, Rena is now listed among the Top 10 most dangerous people in the world and moving up. That's saying something from someone whose powers are triggered by her fear.

Rena continues to work with Travis Payne who might very well be the most dangerous man in the Top 10 with (4) different powers. Unfortunately, Rena isn't as safe as she should be. She's too reliant on Travis who is walking on thin ice with agency's leadership. She needs to control her power and to do that, she needs to learn how to fly. Fear at not being able to save everyone shreds her insides. Rena gets an in-depth look into how the agency works, including how some powerful DC Swamp creatures are running the agency for their own personal agendas. If they agency can't control you, they get rid of you.

Louis Castillo is still working to, what he calls, liberate Regina who he claims is his daughter. Louis is the leader of a terrorist group who now wants to obtain the ability to teleport. After Rena is sent on a mission to diffuse nuclear bombs around Atlanta. she runs into a woman who seems to know quite a bit about Rena and her abilities. A woman whose identity I will not share with you. Rena also gets some education from tertiary characters like Rachelle who is able to control temperatures, Angel Lockhart who can control her victims, and Van, a man of mystery & secrets.

The author further steps into the science fiction genre by revealing that there's another planet with advanced technology who have been visiting Earth for years. Will be interesting to see if this story progresses to send Rena to Golvern. Will also be curious as to how Rena reacts to the bombshell she was handed at the end of this story. Too many lies. Too many secrets. Too few people for Rena to trust.

Format: Kindle, 267 pages
Release Date: April 25, 2019
Publisher: Dirt Road Books

Genre: Young Adult / Urban Fantasy

After her father is kidnapped, Rena can't trust anyone, especially not the agent who saves her. If only she knew his real mission is to unlock her power... Seventeen-year-old Rena Mason counts the days until she can leave for college. Every night her father drinks himself to sleep, leaving her to care for her younger brother. When her father is kidnapped by terrorists, her dreams of freedom become a nightmare.

Stunned that her father has a history with these terrorists, Rena knows she must run or be their next victim. She learns the tough guy at school has a reason to look after her - he's working for a government agency with the same goal as the terrorists: find a woman who disappeared eighteen years ago. Time is running out since only this woman's special gift can save the world from a looming nuclear attack.

Rena can't trust anyone, especially not the stone-cold agent she's falling for. Can they save the world before Rena's feelings trap her in an agent's fight for justice?

Fear Justice contains elements of fantasy, sci-fi, and paranormal. It's the first book in an exciting new series called The Fear Chronicles.

Fear Justice is the first book in The Fear Chronicles series by author C.C. Bolick that combines sci-fi and fantasy. In the Prologue, CC establishes the back story for the series second main character Travis Payne who works for a secretive organization that is supposed to protect US citizens from people with powers. People like Travis who have the powers of teleportation. Readers also learn that a woman named Rosanna, who disappeared 18 years ago, might actually be alive. Why should we care you cask? Continue reading. Rosanna, called Fire Bird, had the power to stop nuclear bombs.

She could also start a nuclear explosion. We're also introduced to Donald Mason who just happens to be Rena's father. Mason, who resigned 18 years ago, was assigned to protect Rosanna. His partner, Travis' father, has been missing for years and Travis hasn't stopped looking for him. Mason is the only one who holds the answer to what happened. Since then, Mason married, had a child and that woman apparently died in a car accident 3 years ago. Travis is ordered to find Rena Mason so that Director Sylvia Greene can discover if Rena has the same powers as Rosanna.

17 year old Regina (Rena) Mason is having a hard time looking after her sibling (Alfie) after her father resorted to drinking himself to sleep after Rena’s mother died a few years ago. Her father has some deep, dark secrets which he hasn't bothered sharing with Rena. Rena's father has enemies from before. Enemies like Black Dawn terrorist Louis Castillo who believes that Rosanna is alive. Rena is told to run with her brother to Atlanta if he disappears. Instead, she and newly arrived Travis Payne find themselves running from Castillo's people.

Rena discovers that Rosanna was her mother. Her mother, like Rena herself, had the same ability to stop a nuclear bomb or cause one to explode. Rena is exposed to the Agency and Sylvia who are the worlds first line of defense against people who have powers that could harm others. Rena's powers only work when she's afraid. The problem is that Rena doesn't fear anything. Literally, you can drop her off a cliff and she doesn't show any fear. The only way to release her powers is to find a way to feel. With Louis on the fringes wanting Rena like he wanted her mother, Rena will have to learn who she can trust and who is just using her powers.

This series is full of possibilities with genuine characters, special powers, a solid mystery, and a good basis for more stories. Plenty of action and suspense. I've already read the second installment in this series while waiting for Fear Darkness to release shortly.
